As part of a round-up campaign at Ray?s Food Place in Creswell, Oakridge, Pleasant Hill and Veneta, more than $8,500 has been raised for breast cancer patients.
The funds will stay local and are being donated to Willamette Valley Cancer Institute?s Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps cancer patients pay for living expenses and improve the quality of patients? lives during and after treatment.
Maria Eitrem, who is currently undergoing breast cancer treatment, says funding from the Foundation has helped her pay for food, household items and utility bills, relieving the stress of covering everyday costs while on medical disability.
?Most people at our stores know someone who?s gone through breast cancer, so we wanted to keep the funds local,? says store manager Jay Payne, who oversees Ray?s Food Place in Creswell.
Payne and other store managers who were involved with the fundraising campaign will present the donation to Willamette Valley Cancer Institute this Friday.
